I have no problems with "First era" since it begins with the creation story, but wasn't there an era between the Old and New Testaments.Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06087383260356335291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1273312299301105704.post-49623187751677991852010-06-28T00:54:07.578+12:002010-06-28T00:54:07.578+12:00Another more generic idea: "First Era" a...Another more generic idea: "First Era" and "Second Era", for Old and New Testaments respectively.Gastón Ruízhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16483081208558005397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1273312299301105704.post-81917323983586373012010-06-20T11:42:13.730+12:002010-06-20T11:42:13.730+12:00I absolutely love the proposal you've outlined...I absolutely love the proposal you've outlined for the OET; I am very impressed. I likewise have never encountered such a system for translating the Bible. Really what you have outlined is a general framework for how a translation can be done in a holistic, coordinated, and comprehensive way. Your principles could and should be applied to Bible translation projects the world over. There could even be a migration path to take an existing translation done, and then integrate it with the other accompanying inter-linked versions.

Have you talked with the guys at Bible.org about your ideas? I'm sure it is something they would be supportive of and it is in line with their vision. If we could get volunteers to do the translation work, perhaps they would contribute the NET Bible as a starting point for one of the versions of the OET.Gastón Ruízhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16483081208558005397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1273312299301105704.post-48098222531266934322010-06-12T13:29:54.795+12:002010-06-12T13:29:54.795+12:00Actually, I am trying to distinguish "version...Actually, I am trying to distinguish "versions" from "editions". To me, a different edition is a different package -- maybe with or without notes, pictures, cross references, etc. The Scripture text remains the same, except perhaps for small things like switching between British/American spelling conventions. A version has changes in the rendering of the Scripture text.

And yes, I am anticipating that it will be valuable to link the versions together. I see that as one of the useful design distinctives of the OET.Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06087383260356335291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1273312299301105704.post-16016063014908981602010-06-12T13:23:13.928+12:002010-06-12T13:23:13.928+12:00Yes, I'm sure I'll end up with the Creativ...Yes, I'm sure I'll end up with the Creative Commons BY-SA licence.

And yes, I blogged about the OEB in http://openscripture.blogspot.com/2010/04/trickles-turn-into-rivers.htmlRobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06087383260356335291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1273312299301105704.post-75212117567492981782010-06-12T10:05:26.787+12:002010-06-12T10:05:26.787+12:00I like the idea of having different flavors of a t...I like the idea of having different flavors of a translation for different purposes: literal edition, reader's edition, children's, dramatized audio edition, etc. What would be especially cool is if these different editions were all linked together, so that as you're reading the the reader's edition (in a web app for example) you could look behind the text to see the literal edition, or visa-versa. By having all of the editions linked together, it would also help with keeping them in sync with each other.Gastón Ruízhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16483081208558005397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1273312299301105704.post-67274977785793986202010-06-12T10:03:57.539+12:002010-06-12T10:03:57.539+12:00Oh, have you seen the Open English Bible project? ...Oh, have you seen the Open English Bible project?
